This curriculum is designed to help students build the solid conceptual foundation in mathematics that will enable them to apply their knowledge and further their learning successfully. It is based on the belief that students learn mathematics most effectively when they are given opportunities to investigate ideas and concepts through problem solving and are then guided carefully into an understanding of the mathematical principles involved. At the same time, it promotes a balanced program in mathematics. The acquisition of operational skills remains an important focus of the curriculum. Attention to the processes that support effective learning of mathematics is also considered to be essential to a balanced mathematics program.
*A hard copy will be given out on the first day of class |
HomeworkStudents will receive homework on an almost daily basis. They will have some time in class to complete the work, so may not bring any work home even though it was assigned. I do "homework checks" to see if work is being completed.
|
TextbookEach student will be given a math textbook. I will be encouraging students to leave the textbooks in the class and only to bring it home when needed.
|
Assessment/EvaluationEach chapter of the textbook will be covered, but not necessarily in that order. Within each chapter there will be daily check-ups, a unit test, and a unit task/assignment.
